How ongoing legal support works

This is a monthly service for recurring matters under Russian law. Together, we identify which issues to refer to the legal team, the volume of documents, who approves decisions on your side and how urgent tasks will be handled.

The arrangement can suit a foreign company dealing with Russian counterparties or a Russian company with foreign owners. Services depend on the plan and engagement agreement: document drafting, corporate actions and litigation are not included in every package. Before work begins, we agree precisely which tasks we will undertake.

When to engage a legal team on an ongoing basis

If any of these situations applies to you, start with a list of tasks from a typical month. It will help us identify a suitable scope of support.

You regularly enter into contracts with Russian partners

You need to review delivery, payment and liability terms, agree amendments and prepare documents for recurring transactions.

Your Russian team needs legal input

Managers and employees need a clear way to obtain legal support on day-to-day matters without finding a new provider for each task.

Decisions require approval from an overseas head office

Legal risks and available options need to be explained to management outside Russia, with document languages and translation arrangements agreed in advance.

Claims have become a recurring part of business

Late payments, delivery failures and counterparty demands arise regularly. You need to gather relevant documents in time and decide what to do next.

Directors or corporate documents are changing

You need help with resolutions, authority to act, amendments to company documents and related registration steps within an agreed scope.

You want clarity on scope and fees

You need to define recurring services, package limits and how additional tasks will be approved before work begins.

What your support arrangement can cover

These are areas to consider when agreeing the scope. The selected plan and engagement agreement define the specific services and limits.

Day-to-day legal consultations

We discuss Russian law issues arising in your business. Consultation times and the format of advice depend on the plan; written advice is a separate service unless included in the package.

Contracts and negotiation of terms

We review contracts and prepare drafts, amendments and schedules of proposed changes. Document volumes and participation in negotiations are agreed in advance.

Claims and business correspondence

We prepare demands, responses, notices and other agreed documents. If obligations are breached, we help establish your position and assemble the relevant materials.

Corporate matters

We assist with resolutions, authority to act and amendments to a Russian company's corporate documents. Required steps and documents are identified for each matter.

Dealings with public authorities

We review enquiries and demands, prepare agreed responses and represent your interests within the plan's scope. Deadlines and any special procedures are assessed separately.

Litigation

We assess whether court action is needed and agree the conduct of each case. Litigation support is provided under certain plans; it is not included in the entry-level Start plan.

What we agree before the service begins

For a foreign business, a service list is only part of the arrangement. The legal team, Russian operation and head office also need clear working procedures.

The client entity and applicable law

We identify the entity we will support and the matters governed by Russian law. Any need for foreign-law advice or a separate specialist is agreed additionally.

Scope and limits

We specify task types, document and service volumes, how instructions are given and how work outside the package is approved. Several group companies do not automatically count as a single client scope.

Contacts, deadlines and urgency

We choose contact people and communication channels, taking time zones into account. Each task's deadline is agreed in light of its scope and mandatory deadlines. We establish in advance how urgent requests should be raised.

Communication and document languages

We communicate directly in English and use an interpreter for Chinese. The language of written materials, the need for interpreting or translation and the associated fees are agreed before that work begins.

Accounting support

The existing retainer plans include accounting services at different levels. If these are not needed, the selected plan costs 20% less. We check whether the package is suitable for your company's actual activities.

Additional expenses and authority to act

We separately identify any need for powers of attorney, translations, document certification, official fees and travel. These costs are not automatically included in the monthly payment.

The work products we can agree

Choose the outputs you need. They are prepared for specific tasks within the paid scope and are not automatically included in every plan.

Documents for current transactions

Drafts, amendments and agreed versions of contracts, appendices and schedules of proposed changes within the selected contract work.

A position on a question or dispute

An explanation of options and risks and, where written work is agreed, a response, formal demand, notice or other required document.

Materials for corporate actions

Prepared documents and a list of next steps for a specific resolution, authority arrangement or corporate change.

Clear task status

We agree how to share progress: what is being worked on, which information is needed from the client and what requires approval before the next step.

The client makes decisions about transactions and company actions. Legal support helps assess risks but does not guarantee that claims, litigation or commercial losses will never occur.

How we get started

  1. You describe the business and its needs

Tell us the company's country of incorporation, its Russian activities, recurring issues, approximate document volume and upcoming mandatory deadlines.

  2. We identify the materials and format

We determine what needs to be reviewed to select an appropriate service. If an initial consultation with document review is necessary, its scope and fee are agreed beforehand.

  3. We agree the plan and working arrangements

We define services, limits, payment, contacts, communication language, translation arrangements and additional expenses. Existing disputes and urgent tasks are discussed separately.

  4. We begin handling recurring tasks

Once arrangements are documented, we accept the agreed tasks, set priorities and exchange materials through the chosen process. If the volume changes, we discuss the terms for future work.

You can start by email without a Russian telephone number. Please provide your time zone when arranging a call.

Fees and choice of service

Ongoing work uses our existing retainer plans. The right plan depends on your company's tasks, document volumes and required services.

Initial consultation

From RUB 5,000

A consultation including review of the documents provided, within a scope agreed in advance. It helps you discuss the current situation and identify the next step.

Contract drafting, a written legal opinion and subsequent support are not automatically included in the consultation fee.

Discuss a consultation

Ongoing retainer support

From RUB 45,000 per month

The published entry price for the Start plan, including its accounting component. A different plan is needed for higher document volumes or a broader range of services.

Start provides oral consultations on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00–22:00 Krasnoyarsk time (UTC+7), and one contract review or schedule of proposed amendments per month. Contract drafting and litigation support are excluded. Its accounting component covers a company with no actual business activity and mandatory nil returns.

Choose a scope of support

Work outside the selected package

Quoted individually

If work exceeds the limits or a service is not included, we agree it separately or discuss moving to a suitable plan.

The terms and payment arrangements for additional volume, urgent work, translation and involvement in a new court case must be agreed in advance.

Discuss additional tasks

If accounting support is not required

The selected retainer plan's fee is reduced by 20%. This condition applies to the existing plan range; it does not automatically apply to a one-off consultation, additional work or expenses.

The full scope of the five existing plans is published on our general ongoing legal support page. For a foreign company, we agree the appropriate package, document languages and additional services in advance.

View all plans and their scope →

We respond to enquiries at weekends too. Paid consultation times and task schedules are governed by the plan and our agreement; consultation days are limited in the entry-level plan.

Translations, notarial services, official fees, travel and other necessary expenses are agreed separately. Payment arrangements are discussed before work begins. All amounts shown are in Russian rubles.

What to tell us when choosing support

A brief description is enough to start. You do not need to send your entire document archive in the first message.

The company and your role

Its name, country of incorporation, your position and whether there is a Russian company or local operation.

Activities in Russia

What you sell or buy, who you do business with and which group companies require support.

Recurring tasks

Consultations, contracts, claims, corporate actions, enquiries from public authorities or court cases.

Approximate volume

The number of contracts and other documents per month and whether you have your own legal and accounting teams.

Deadlines and current issues

When you want the service to begin, which documents or responses are urgent and whether a dispute or mandatory deadline already exists.

Language and communication

Your preferred language, any need to translate written materials, your time zone and email address or messenger contact.

If a court, public authority or contract has already set a deadline, mention it immediately. We will first agree which materials are needed and how to share them.

Questions about ongoing legal support

How does ongoing support differ from a one-off contract review?

A one-off engagement addresses a specific task, such as reviewing a contract or preparing a formal demand. A retainer covers recurring tasks within an agreed monthly scope. If the issue is a single one, you can discuss a standalone service without committing to an ongoing arrangement.

Can we engage you if we do not have a Russian company?

We can discuss supporting a foreign company with its matters in Russia. A Russian entity is not required for an initial enquiry. Before work begins, we agree the contracting party, required documents, authority to act and payment arrangements.

Can we work in English or Chinese?

We communicate directly in English and engage an interpreter for Chinese communication. Document languages, written translation requirements and translation fees are agreed in advance. The plan does not automatically include every written document in two or three languages.

What does the starting fee of RUB 45,000 per month mean?

It is the published fee for the entry-level Start plan with its accounting component. Consultation days and contract review volumes are limited; contract drafting and litigation support are not included. It is not the price of an unlimited legal department. An operating business with a higher document volume will need a different plan.

Do you respond at weekends?

Yes, we respond to enquiries at weekends too. Consultation hours under a retainer depend on the selected plan: Start, for example, provides consultations on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Deadlines for individual tasks and urgent work are agreed separately, taking time zones into account.

Are court cases included in the retainer?

Some existing plans include a specified number of court proceedings; Start does not include litigation work. Before the service begins, we agree the cases, court stages, scope of representation and expenses. A monthly engagement does not automatically cover every new dispute.

Can we opt out of accounting support?

Yes. If accounting services are not required, the fee for the selected retainer plan is reduced by 20%. Legal services and their limits remain governed by the selected package. Additional tasks and expenses are agreed separately.

Do we need to visit Krasnoyarsk or Russia?

Discussions and document exchange can begin remotely. The need for personal attendance, originals and a power of attorney depends on the task. If representation is required in another region, we separately agree travel by our lawyer or the involvement of a local partner, together with the related costs.

What happens if our tasks exceed the plan's limits?

We discuss the additional scope before beginning that work: we can agree a separate task or choose another plan. Arrangements for counting documents and services, changing the package and payment are documented in our agreement.

How do we start if we do not know which plan is suitable?

Tell us what the company does in Russia, which issues arise each month and how many documents are usually needed. Include upcoming deadlines, your language and time zone. We will identify the next step; if a consultation with document review is required, we agree its scope and fee in advance, starting at RUB 5,000.
